Over the past month, Miranda RSL Youth Club coaches have participated in a number of professional development activities to continue to ensure that we are providing our athletes with the best possible level of instruction and supervision possible. A brief summary of the activities is included below.

Trampoline Gymnastics Intermediate Coaching Course

In late April, two of our junior Trampoline coaches, Keelie and Sarah, participated in the Intermediate Trampoline Face to Face Course. This was a full day activity held in Auburn that was the culmination of months of hard work. The Face to Face course is the final step in obtaining an Intermediate Coaching Accreditation and involves a mixture of theoretical and practical assessments under the supervision of some of NSW’s top Trampoline Gymnastics coaches.

The Youth Club would like to congratulate Keelie and Sarah for obtaining their Intermediate Accreditation at this course and commend them for their dedication to the Youth Club and their own professional development as coaches.

First Aid Course

On the 20th of May, sixteen coaches participated in an all day First Aid Course at the Youth Club in order to renew (and for a couple of our beginner coaches, attain) their accreditations.

As Trampoline Gymnastics involves inherent risk, it is important that every staff member is trained to deal with any incident that may arise, no matter how big or small. The First Aid Course includes CPR certification and additional training in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED. An AED was purchased by the Youth Club late last year and is mounted on the wall of the hall in case it is ever needed.

The Youth Club pays for all coach accreditations, qualifications and professional development to make sure that every coach is given the opportunity to reach their full potential and attain their desired level of qualification. Coach education is by far the Youth Club’s biggest expenditure, even more than the cost of upgrading and replacing equipment. We would like to thank every coach who has dedicated their time to developing their expertise, and helping us provide quality instruction in a range of activities for children and young adults in the Sutherland Shire.
